Well, I read this comic, and quite frankly, I liked it, I’m big into humor as it is, and well, it’s pretty funny in some parts, but there’s some seriousness in it as well.
What I really like about it, for a time you don’t even notice that they are wearing superhero uniforms, because they are such “Average Joes” and they act, well, average, which is what I like about them.
The synopsis is this, basically there is a team of 3 heroes in this group, a.k.a - “The Trio”. We have Firestarter, which is a hero or “cap” as the police calls them, who has fire-like abilities, and apparently, liquor fuels these abilities, apparently there’s a tussle between Firestarter and the team leader “Brick”, as to whether or not Firestarter is using his high amounts of alcohol consumption as an excuse to drink for his “Fire” abilities.
“Quik” a team hero member that has a television addiction, as can be noticed through his use of quoting TV shows and other movies during this issue. He’s basically, well, FAST.
Then there’s the leader of this mess of merry men, “Brick”. The muscle head of the group. Brick seems to be the level head of the bunch, but apparently, is careless about his identity, but seems to not care too much about keeping his identity on the down low, at least in front of the police, behind closed doors. If his mask becomes an inconvenience or just too uncomfortable, he’ll take it off, if someone spots him? Who cares, right?
Oh, then there’s the “catwoman” of this group, not much about her as of yet, I guess we’ll find out later.
Now let’s touch on the humor, I think these are a superhero ability of this group, because they have pretty good comebacks when someone takes a stab at them. It’s great! Instead of using the “Bat Signal” have beepers in their butts. These heroes are at an advantage over the “bat signal” because, what can you do if you have no cloud cover, right?
Also, they don’t go right into fighting, they seem to be the “Hardy Boys” of superheroes, actually doing detective work (almost through the entire issue) before going gang busters just yet on any bad guys. I like that they go around looking for clues FIRST, then take ACTION later.
Anyhow, I think this book is pretty good overall, covers humor, seriousness, possible romances, and other such quips.
I would like to thank Ryan McLelland for giving me an opportunity to review his first issue of “Philly”. I would like to mention the other members of his creative staff:
Penciler: Jim Hanna
Inker: Ralph Hedon
Colorist: Jim Reddington
Editor: Sean O’Reilly
They are working with Arcana Studios.
Looks like you have something great going on here!
Thank you
