Facebook Vs. MySpace Will Facebook Gain Ground?

MySpace, hmmm, when I think about it, lately I have been hearing that word EVERYWHERE you go. It’s as common as “Googling” something on the internet.

You hear it on TV, Movies, Stand-Up Comics, the News, etc. It’s pretty much a household name. It’s the powerhouse social networking site that is, in my opinion, popular ONLY because it was probably the FIRST social networking site.

Thing is, it was voted the NUMBER 1 WORST website by PC World.

And I have to say, I DO agree! There are so many errors when trying submit mail, some people have had their accounts hacked (not saying that wont’ happent to Facebook), SPAM from women that I thought were interested me as a dude she had the hots for, but turns out it’s just a link to a website for pornography.

Also, when you try to view individual profiles, depending on what the user did for the theme of their profile, it can be utter CHAOS! 50 songs playing at one time, flashing stars, bells and whistles going off, sometimes the users have made their images so big, you are unable to see everything in their profile, because it goes clearly off the screen.

It’s like when you’re parents went into your room and they said, “Man, it looks like a HURRICANE hit your room!” I make the same comparison to MySpace.

Sure I can understand why it’s popular, but what I DON’T understand is, why are celebrities, musicians (yes, even famous musicians), movies, TV Shows and so on like using these sites, that’s what gets me! I saw a movie trailer on TV one time, and at the end of the trailer, it said to see more about this movie go to: www.myspace.com/nameofmovie. I was like “What the heck, BIG HOLLYWOOD is using myspace? LOL It is too laugh, right?

But….the irony of it…is that I use it anyways….why? Because everyone else is doing it. But perhaps there is time for a change? Perhaps I can start some kind of movement?

Now, to get to what I want to talk about, and something I can sing praises about: Facebook! Yes, I came across this site, and saw how “Serene” and “Organized” it was. It is easy on the eyes. Maybe I’m getting old, but I can compare Facebook to “easy listening” music, as MySpace is to that hardcore LOUD music that our parents couldn’t stand us playing when we were younger. Facebook is to easy-listening as MySpace is to “loud/annoying to the elderly” music.

With that said, I believe facebook is geared toward an older crowd and would probably appeal to an older crowd. With THAT said, take for instance, David Hewlett who plays Dr. Meredith Rodney McKay (yes, his first name IS Meredith!! LOL) Anyways, I think people like himself, might find Facebook more appealing. Though, I have to say kudos to him on his current MySpace layout though. Doesn’t look like a hodge podge of crap you see on most profile pages!

Recently, MARVEL introduced their first official FACEBOOK application! When you plug it into your own Facebook account, you will be able to read DIGITAL Comics from Marvel THROUGH Facebook! Amazing, isn’t it?

At any rate, I question, does anyone really think that Facebook will catch up to the popularity of MySpace anytime soon? Could this NEAT and Organized version of a social network come to RULE as MySpace’s MAIN rival? We shall see…but I’m getting a good feeling that Facebook has GREAT Potential!
